Swansea Round Table, established in 1933, is a social networking and registered charity open to men aged between 18 and 45. Over the last few years thousands of pounds have been raised by holding events such as charity collections, curry nights and the Christmas ‘sleigh run’. Local charities and good causes that have benefited from our donations have included Maggie’s Cancer Charity, Llys Nini, Plasmarl Toddlers’ Group, Stroke Association Wales, Swansea Young Single Homeless and Friends of Stepping Stones.
The collection today at the Swansea City’s Liberty Stadium is being held to raise money for Public Access Defibrillators (PADs) as well as other local good causes and charities. Studies have shown that the survival rate of sudden cardiac arrest is 5% with CPR alone, but 50% with defibrillation. The rate of survival is also time dependent, the quicker the intervention, the better the outcome – brain death starts after 3 minutes. For this reason Swansea Round Table, with the support of the Welsh Ambulance Service, are hoping to buy devices to be placed in various locations in Swansea and which can be used by anyone without formal training.
