On St David’s Day 2014, three brave men made the short trek up the M4 to Cardiff to attend the St David’s Day ball in the wonderful setting of the millenium stadium. After droping off of our bags at the hotel, we decided to take advantage of the glorious weather and make a trip to Cardiff Bay.

There we met up with two more Swansea Tablers for a few drinks in the sun with good stories and plenty of laughs, before returning the hotel to dress to impress in our DJ’s. A short taxi ride later and it was decided to take in a pre dinner tour of the Millenium Stadium. A chance to sit in the same dressing room as the current (past! Well done Ireland) 6 nations champions followed by a press conference, tour of the pitch and hospitality boxes with an opportunity to lift the cup at the end. A very promising start to what turned out to be a great evening.
The St David’s day ball was well attended with over 150 different tablers from across the country and was in aid of ‘make a wish’ charity. You will be pleased and unsurprised, to know that Swansea Round Table certainly made their mark amoungst the other tables. We got on particularly well with Cardiff RT and despite the difference in football teams, it was agreed that we should meet up next year more regularly. After many, many drinks and good quality food, Swansea RT tore up the dance floor with their unique (some would say artistic) moves. The night cumulated in Hefin ‘winning’ a signed welsh rugby top in the raffle and a good time was had by all.
Lessons learnt-
1) if you chat a lot with the serving staff, it does mean that you get a lot more food than anyone else and we were the only table with waitress drinks service.
2) if you buy £300 worth of raffle tickets, then you’ve always got a chance of winning a signed welsh rugby jersey.
