Swansea Round Table buy specialist chair for dementia patients

Dementia patients at Cefn Coed Hospital are sitting more comfortably, thanks to a £1,700 donation to the Physiotherapy Department.

The money, donated by the Swansea Round Table, was used to buy a specialist chair. It can be adjusted to fit a patient’s measurements, so they can sit in the position most comfortable and supportive for them.

Jackie Coates, Mental Health Lead Physiotherapist, said:

“We are very grateful for the support of the Swansea Round Table. The chair will be a huge asset to the department.

“As Dementia develops, patients can feel stiff and find it difficult to get into a comfortable sitting position. Our new chair can be altered to fit a patient’s shape exactly, and can be changed for each patient who uses it.

“Also, patients can develop contractures, a tightness of the muscles which stops them from straightening their arms or legs fully. We can adjust the chair so their limbs are completely supported in a way which is comfortable for them.”
